Violin

Study of the musical instrument is a long process, often lasting a lifetime. It is a good idea to at least give a commitment of one year to an instrument and teacher before re-evaluating the situation. Natural gifts alone are not enough to become successful. It is possible to become successful with determination and hard work.

Talent at young age it is hard to assess because children learn at varying rates. Some children pick up new things faster then the others kids will catch up. The better your child plays, the more he will enjoy practicing. In the beginning, especially, practice is fun and parents should take advantage of this so that the child gets better sooner, and success fuels their enthusiasm.

Watching an accomplished musician play the same instrument as your child is learning can be a good learning experience as well as a source of inspiration. If your community has a symphony orchestra, take your child to a concert. There are often programs of lighter selections. There are often free concerts in parks and libraries, museums and high schools, sport events. If you get a chance, you may be able to have your child meet the musician after the performance. This can leave a lasting impression on children and serve as a great motivator.
